4 Bad Beauty Habits to Break This Year

When it comes to your health, you most-likely try to eat right, get lots of exercise, keep things low stress and even make sure you live in a healthy home, but what about your skin and beauty habits? Have you ever thought about what you could do to make sure you’re treating your skin just as well you treat the inside of your body? Whether you’re skipping that daily SPF moisturizer, forgetting to wash your makeup off before you head to bed or are using makeup and products that are much too old, here’s a look at a few bad skincare and beauty habits to break this year.

Bad Beauty Habits to Break

Skipping out on washing your face before bed. This one is so easy and simple to resolve – all you have to do is promise yourself that before you head to bed each night you’ll wash your face. Sounds so easy, right? It can be tough when you’re really tired or have had a long day, you just want to crawl into bed. But, trust me on this one – washing your face each night will give your skin a chance to breathe and renew itself while you sleep. It’s one of the best and easiest things you can do for your skin health. So, just do it. It takes two minutes and you’ll feel so much better when you wake up each morning.

Using dirty makeup brushes. This one is kind of a no-brainer. When you think about it, why would you even want to consider using dirty makeup brushes on your face? Washing your makeup brushes may seem like a chore, but in the long run it’s so much better for your skin and face. Dirty makeup brushes can be full of bacteria and as a result can make your clear skin broken out and looking dull. Easy solution: make cleaning your makeup brushes part of your weekly routine.

Bad Beauty Habits to Break

Skipping the sunscreen. Sunscreen is one of the best things you can do for your skin and body when it comes to protecting yourself from UV rays and avoidable sun damage. Adding some sunscreen to your daily moisturizing routine is one of the easiest things you can do to ensure you’re protecting your skin – so simple, right? Daily sunscreen will easily help protect your skin from wrinkles, sunspots in addition to more serious health issues like skin cancer. So why not make sunscreen a priority?

Using old, outdated makeup. When it comes to rotating your makeup, it’s essential to keeping your skin looking good, clear and fresh as can be. The biggest culprit of old and past-its-prime makeup? Mascara. While mascara doesn’t affect your skin, old mascara can easily put you at risk for eye infections. When you think about it that little tube contains what’s essentially a breeding ground for germs and other unwanted bacteria. So why put that anywhere near your eyes? In general toss your makeup after about a year, but when it comes to mascara, opt for a new tube every three months or so.
