The red eyeshadow trend has become popular over the last few months. Celebrities have been donning this look on the red carpet for years now, but it seems as though it’s showing up more and more these. I love this trend, but I’ve always been afraid to try it. Red isn’t exactly a conventional color when it comes to eye shadow, which is why I turned to makeup artist and expert, Ana Fernandez. Ana gave me some step by step instructions that I wanted to share with you. Check them out below to try out the red eye shadow trend at home!
- First thing you want to do when creating an eyeshadow look is prime your eyes with any eye primer or concealer. Then set your eyes with an eyeshadow similar to your natural skin color. This will ensure maximum color pay off.
- Start your eyeshadow look with a light orange or brown shade throughout the crease. You do not need to be too precise in this step. This will help the red shadow transition and blend effortlessly.
- Stay away from green or blue when working with red. This may make your eyeshadow look like a bruise or black eye.
- Use only matte (no shimmer) red eyeshadows in your crease.
- Feel free to use any matte or shimmer eyeshadow on the lid. I recommend a red, orange, gold, rose gold, champagne, or copper.
- One of the most important tips when it comes to eyeshadow is to blend, blend, blend, using a fluffy brush until your eyeshadow looks seamless.
- If you want more of a wearable look, work in some brown shades on the outer end of your lid and in your crease.
- Give your brows some love. With such a bold look like red eyeshadow, make sure to give your brows some attention to help pull together the look and frame your face.
- Don’t go crazy with blush. You already have red on your eyes so tone down your blush to a more neutral, soft tone.
- Be creative. At the end of the day it is just makeup and you can wash it off. Be adventurous and don’t hold back. Break out of your comfort zone and you will be amazed at what makeup has to offer.
