The MET Gala is one of my favorite red carpets of the year. So much creativity and glamour from the top designers in the world make this a top event to follow yearly. Fashion model/TV presenter Alexa Chung sparkled on the red carpet in a custom Thakoon striped sequin pajama tuxedo. It’s easy to see what inspired L’Oreal Professional Hairstylist Anh Co Tran, co-owner of the Ramirez Tran Salon in New York City.

“The inspiration for Alexa’s look was a modern, effortless take on David Bowie. Her beautiful, shimmery Thakoon outfit gave the appearance of a sequined suit, so we wanted her hairstyle to deviate from her signature casual look.”

As much as this look was glam enough for an event such as the MET gala, it’s not overly done and can be worn beautifully for a luncheon or night out. I might even be inspired to wear this updo with a pair of dressed up jeans with a crisp button down and blazer. Talk about a power lunch!

Here’s how you can rock this look using three products from L’Oreal Professional:
Step 1: First I had Alexa wash her hair clean.
Step 2: Then I prepped the wet hair with Absolut Repair Lipidium Leave-In Blow-dry Cream ($27.00) – a pea size amount applied mostly on the ends to smooth them where Alexa has highlights.
Step 3: I then rough dried her hair with my fingers, without moving it too much which can make hair really straight, my goal was to keep her texture.
Step 4: Then I curled her hair, pushing the hair back, leaving the ends out, so it looked more effortless and natural.
Step 5: I finished off the look with Crêpage de Chignon Mineral Powder Spray ($26.00) and then sprayed it with Tecni.Art Infinium 4 Hairspray ($26.00) right before she left.
