This week, one of the world’s largest art fairs rolls into
Miami known as Art Basel Miami Beach. Following the main event are numerous
independent art fairs, art shows, and collectors that come to the Magic City
for the week. Everywhere you look, there’s art. Even the people that fly in are
works of art on their own. It’s truly an amazing few days.
And while so much of the work is spectacular, what truly
leaves me in awe is the fact that one thing brings all these people together:
art. People from all over the world come together this week to celebrate the
creative expressions of others. It takes a lot of courage to express your
vision, create a product, and then put it out there.
Of course, most of these artists are hoping others like
their work and ultimately pay money for it. But expressing ourselves creatively
does not always need to be for the masses. The majority of the time, it’s for
us. Which brings me to my point: the importance of taking time for creative
projects.
Art Basel is a perfect example of what art can do to move
large amounts of people. Maybe leaving your day job for the life of a painter
isn’t the best thing, but taking time every once in a while to leave the
numbers behind and work on a creative project can do you some good. We get so
used to seeing our work and the world in one way because it’s how we’ve trained
our minds to think. Why not challenge our brains to see things from another
perspective? That’s what a little art project can help you with. Even if it’s
simply creating a holiday wreath. Anything that can help you use that part of
your brain that’s been collecting dust.
So today, I challenge you to schedule in that little art
project you’ve been meaning to get to. Maybe it’s writing a screenplay, or
creating a jewelry line? Whatever it may be, I’m sure it’ll bring you a whole
new view of life and tons of inspiration.
Enjoy.
