When young aspiring entrepreneurs ask me for advice, I
always offer this one piece: go out of your way for anyone who asks a favor of
you. Of course, this is in addition to other little kernels of wisdom. But I
believe helping others is a key component to being successful in life.
So let’s say you receive an email from your friend’s
daughter who is looking for a job. She’s asking you to forward on her resume to
your contacts. I understand it could be a drag to send out an email to your
contacts on her behalf. But what if it was your daughter or your friend looking
for work?
I strongly encourage you to use your talents to help others.
Why? Because I believe energy is recycled. And one day your positive actions
will be returned to you or someone you love. It’s the idea of paying it
forward. It’s important to believe that your good deeds never go to waste. They
are making the world a better place, and in return making your life better.
Additionally, think of all the nice gestures that have come
your way throughout the years. The kind of gestures that have so strings
attached. Didn’t you feel special? Wouldn’t you want someone else to experience
that kind act?
For those of you that are in a place where you can help—even
if it seems stupid—extend the olive branch. You never know when you might need
the same love.
xoxo,
Loren
