As part of our series “A Better You,” today I’d like to talk
about the importance of learning. Absorbing information is what fuels our
spirit and ultimately makes us a better person. But what does learning really
mean?
When life gets difficult most of us play the role of the victim.
Even the strongest person can fall into this black hole. After all, feeling bad
for ourselves when things are hard is so much easier than trying to learn from
the situation. This is why number two on my list is to learn more.
If we see everything as a lesson, we naturally see a hard
situation in a positive light. There’s no need to try to think positive,
because by appreciating the lesson we are already being thankful, which
produces positive energy. Look at that! You can be positive without trying.
This exercise also works for those really annoying people in
your life. Or those people who continuously hurt you. Learn from them. What
actions did they take that you would not like to take in your own life? If they
made you feel shitty, how can you change your mindset in order to not allow
them to make you feel that way? Why do you allow them to make you feel that
way?
When things get rough, don’t roll up into a ball. Instead
ask yourself “What can I learn from this situation or this person?” Looking for
the lesson in everything also keeps us humble and teaches us to strive for more.
Plus, people will appreciate you more if you show them you are curious and will
to let them teach you something. And your lesson does not need to me so
obvious. A lot of the time your lesson will come from observing how you react
in a particular situation. Something like “Oh, I had no idea I’m calm under
pressure. I should try to be calm in even easy situations.”
If continue to learn, you’ll never be bored.
