The other night, I sat down with a friend of mine who had
recently returned from a trip to Peru. She explains that is was more of a
mission than a vacation. From climbing the famous Machu Picchu mountain to visiting
the Inca’s land, she truly immersed herself in their culture.
But perhaps the most fascinating part of her trip was
realizing how much believing was part of these people’s culture. She told me “we
couldn’t help but believe that everything was going to work out for us while we
were there. If we didn’t believe, we would seem weird.” So her and her
girlfriend believed that they would come across everything they needed while on
their adventure. And guess what? It did. Even to the point that they asked the
universe to hold the rain the day they hiked the mountain, even though it
rained every other day during their nine-day trip. They believed the rain would
hold out and it did.
Having the capacity to believe is such a blessing. Many
people have programmed themselves to believe that believing is for children.
But what’s funny about that is they do believe! They believe in something
negative, but nonetheless they have a belief.
When life gets a little rough and you find it hard to
believe, take a look around at all the small miracles that have come your way.
Focusing on the things you have in your present that manifested from a desire
you had in your past is the best way to remind yourself that it is ok to believe.
How could I ever look at my gorgeous apartment in NYC without believing that
what I really, really want will come my way eventually?
Believe. Because not believing is such a sad way to live. If
you have the choice between focusing your attention on the good things that
have come your way because you believed at some point and living your life as a
victim (poor me, nothing comes my way), wouldn’t you choose the happier way of
life?
