Have you ever said a statement out loud that sounds like a
belief, but really it’s just you trying to convince yourself of that belief?
“He’s the love of my life, really.” A year later, you finally decide to be
honest with yourself, and realize that the love of your life was actually just
a security blanket.
It’s unfortunate to think how many times we lie to ourselves
a day. We lie about our level of comfort with situations. We lie about liking
our career when all we’re doing is settling with a job. We lie that a bad
feeling is not our own doing, but the doing of someone else. We tell ourselves
all sorts of lie all day. Why? Because being honest with ourselves takes so
much courage and humility.
You know those days when you just want to throw your hands
up and say “I am so confused with life?” Being confused means there’s a lack of
clarity. And the only way to make this clear is to live in truth. You are
confused because you have not been speaking the truth. “Why did my boss promote
someone else when I really wanted the job? I just don’t get it.” Did you speak
the truth to your boss? Did you tell him, physically speak to him, about the
situation? “Why is this guy sending me weird text messages, but never makes a
move?” Has your communication with him been honest? Have you shown (you don’t
have to necessarily tell him) him you like him?
You see how life can get confusing when we’re not just being
honest with who we are? Gosh, I’m exhausted just writing this!
Everyday, work to live in truth. When people ask you a
question, say the truth from your heart. And saying the truth doesn’t have to
be hurtful to others. The truth comes from our heart and is pure. There are no
ulterior motives, jealousy, or hate involved. Understand the difference before
you speak.
Living in the truth is more about how you live your life
than what you say. Be honest about what you want and love yourself for wanting
that. No desire that is pure and comes from our heart is wrong. Follow the
truth and the cloud of confusion will turn into a rainbow of clarity.
