The Secret to Stopping the Comparison Trap

jealousy

So many people forget that their thoughts can snowball into something bigger; “you become what you think about all the time” is the truest statement I have ever heard. That is why it’s my motto, my mantra, my favorite quote. While negative self-talk is one of the worst things we can do to ourselves, jealousy is another that can eat away at you, making you focus on the blessings of another instead of your own. We have all had an experience where another woman’s outfit has made us want to overhaul our entire closet or someone’s fit physique has sworn us into a crash diet or a person’s good fortune has transpired into our own pity party.

While these thoughts may be natural, it can turn a fleeting moment into a catastrophic landslide with little effort. A very close friend of mine shared her secret on how to stop comparing yourself to others and now I’m sharing it with you. She told me that every time she felt envious of another woman, she went up and complimented them. Within days she was free of the comparison trap, changing a festering, unhappy thought pattern into good karma that comes back around.

There is a difference between feeling inspired by another woman to make a switch in your life and allowing the comparison trap to beat down your confidence. I wanted to write about this to remind my readers that each and every one of you is good enough. What do you think of my friend’s secret to stopping the comparison trap? Are you willing to give it a try?
