If you work full time or are a woman entrepreneur, there is somewhere you most likely spend hours at a time, otherwise known as your work space.  That environment can make or break tough or busy days, too.  But it’s fully possible to create a strong, soulful oasis to crank out some major “to-do’s.”

Many companies today are providing work spaces that allow you a lot of options in decorating them or making them more inviting for hours of sitting or staring at a computer.  However, some companies aren’t quite there yet in allowing this.   For those of you that have some options, I’ve taken the time to gather some awesome resources for you.

So whether you work from a boring grey box (ahem…cubicle), or you have a space at home you haven’t figured out how to spruce up, today I’ve got you covered.  You don’t have to sacrifice your budget to makeover your work space for 2013. Why not start this year really enjoying where you create and work?

Here’s 10 ways you can really soulify your work space in the new year.

  1. Add Color.  Sitting constantly looking at a white wall or the plain old accessories that have been around for years is one of the reasons we wear down so quickly throughout the day and can’t wait to go home or get off work.  Color brings energy into your space, so add some color.  Ideas?  Colored picture frames, matching binders, colored pens (even if you rarely use them), colored sticky notes, wallpaper or magazine photos you love.
  2. Use something sentimental. Anything that reminds you of ones you love can often motivate you to create and finish a project.  Pictures, something your child made for you, or gifts that were extremely thoughtful are great to put on your desk or near where you work.
  3. If possible, candles or something with scent or aromatherapy.  Scents have been scientifically proven to influence brain waves and moods.  If you don’t work from home and can’t have a candle in your office or at your desk, try these time-released USB’s you can plug into your computer!  (No, I’m not kidding).
  4. Super functional supplies.  Easy storage units, file cabinets, trinkets with multiple functions, or drawers will automatically make you feel more chic as you work.  See Jane Work is one of the most fabulous websites to order chic office supplies from.  You’re welcome!
  5. Pictures of family OR scenery that inspires or motivates you.  Use magazine pages, journals, books you’ve bought, or pictures from home.  You can use magnets to hang them on a cubicle wall, or frame them in picture frames and hang them if you have an office.
  6. Vision Board.  One of my fellow guest bloggers, Rachael Lowe, recently taught us why our vision boards might not be working.  She says the board influences how we feel, which influences our thoughts and ultimately our actions.
  7. A nice set of headphones.  To spin Pandora or your favorite tunes during the day helps the time pass and can even help you get more done.
  8. A nice lamp for warm lighting.  To inspire or set a nice mood for where you’ll be spending hours sitting.  Try Ikea, Z Gallerie, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Target, or West Elm.  What about this quirky owl lamp?
  9. A USB fan and/or space heater.  Try this Zippi Fan.

10. A wireless mouse and an extra in the drawer.  Sometimes batteries die unannounced and well, that’s frustrating if you don’t keep the AA’s around!  Having a spare will spare you added frustration.
