With all the crazy cool mobile devices out there, making a phone call just isn’t as simple as it used to be. To some degree, we’re more in touch with people these days, but our interactions are so much less personal. Sometimes I wonder, is it better to call or text? While it’s almost always easier to send a text, occasionally we just want to hear one another’s voices. So, how do you know? When does the importance of calling vs. texting come into play? Check out these guidelines for weighing your options and let me know what you think.
Is It Better to Call or Text?
- Ask yourself: what’s the length of my message? Do I have a lot to say or is my message super simple?
- How quickly do I need to respond? Could I text a simple reply to immediately solve a problem?
- What’s my cell service like? Will I be battling the phone to hear the person I am calling?
- Is it late at night or early in the morning? Would a text be less intrusive?
- Is this a professional call? Would a text actually be appropriate?
- How could this message be interpreted? Does the person I’m interacting with need to hear my voice to understand what I really mean?
Sometimes the importance of calling vs. texting is a choice that required some extra thought. How do you decide?
