Even if you don’t feel it yet: Spring is upon us! The same way we’ll be changing up our wardrobe, we’ll also want to change up our hair. And that doesn’t necessarily mean a new haircut. We called upon Raphael Reboh, owner and 30-year master stylist at Femme Coiffure Hair Spa in South Beach, for tips that will keep our locks looking healthy through the warm-weathered months.
Skip the shampoo:
It is ideal to skip a day of shampoo to prevent dry locks. But with uncompromising temperatures, our strands produce extra oil. To prevent over greased and over washed hair, soak a cotton ball in witch hazel, dab it on the roots and around the frame of your face (these strands tend to harbor oil and dirt) then blow-dry on a cool setting for 5 minutes.
Slick it back & style with a scarf:
Straight off of the Summer 2011 runways, scarves are the go-to accessories for the body – and now, your hair! Think Jennifer Lopez, who has stylishly worn them on American Idol!
Silk woven braids:
This look was featured in the latest Hermes ads; all you need is a simple light scarf – preferably silk or satin – with dimensions that are as slim as a ruler so it doesn’t weigh down your hair. Start out by gathering your hair into a low ponytail, next, take your scarf and find the middle and tie it around the ponytail to secure it. Then, divide the hair into 3 sections adding the scarf to 2 of the section and loosely braid the hair with the scarf securing it at the end – letting the ends of the scarf hang loose. Finish the style with a light serum to seal fly-aways and to add a bit of shine.
