We’ve all heard the old adage: practice makes perfect. But
do we all put it into, well, practice?
Studies have shown that the more hours you log in perfecting
a specific skill, the greater expertise you develop. It’s as simple as that.
A lot of times we want to develop a new skill, but after
trying it for the first time we realize how challenging it is and we get
discouraged. Well, even Beethoven started somewhere.
In best-selling author Malcom Caldwell’s book Outliers, he
states that “talent is the desire to practice.” And if you think about it, the
people with the most talent are the people who practice the most.
So take this as a reminder—and encouragement—that you can
develop an expertise in any field—just as long as you want to practice. A
simple, yet empowering statement.
