For many of us travel makes up more than 75% of our jobs. I have to admit that last year we traveled so much, it was tough to remember where home actually is. Between the airports, hotels and restaurants, extensive travel can really add to your stress levels. While seeing the world is so much fun and I am beyond grateful to have that opportunity, it’s easy to lose your daily routine. It is essential to find ways to stay on your game while you’re on the road. From one business traveler to another, here are my ideas for keeping it all together when you just can’t be home or in the office.
How to Stay on Your Game When You’re on the Road
- Make sure your calendar includes all the details for every event. Sometimes just knowing what to expect is half the battle.
- Make international conference calls during waking hours for all participants (if possible) to avoid disrupting everyone’s sleep schedule.
- The road is a great place for good ideas to be born. Keep all those ideas written down in one central place – like a journal or a notepad on your mobile phone.
- Take advantage of Skype and FaceTime! Traveling alone for long periods of time can feel isolating.
- While you travel home, stay offline. You can avoid airplane wifi, and take that uninterrupted time to write emails and complete other work that needs your attention. When you get home, you’ll have gotten so much accomplished, you’ll feel great.
