More than 27,000 people from over 96 different countries gathered today to run the annual Boston Marathon, only to face two horrific explosions at the finish line around 3 pm. The cause is unknown and police are advising those close to the site to stay away from trash cans and suspicious packages that could be potentially dangerous. The surrounding area is on lockdown, including nearby subway stops. The Boston Police Department is releasing updates via Twitter, confirming that at least 22 100 injured and 2 3 are dead. [UPDATE] Suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is in custody. He was hiding in a boat and was captured after a gun fight. “We got him,” said Mayor Tom Menino
[UPDATE] The dead suspect has been ID’d as older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The surviving Boston bomb suspect is 19-year-old Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev.
[UPDATE] It is confirmed that Suspect #1 and #2 are brothers and had been living in Boston for at least a year by way of Chechnya. Suspect #1 was an engineering student at Bunker Hill Community College and recently posted on his Facebook page, “I don’t have a single American friend, I don’t understand them.” Police are conducting a door-to-door search in Watertown for Suspect #2, who is still at large.
[UPDATE] There is a massive manhunt happening in Boston today for Suspect #2. Suspect #1 is dead after a shooting at MIT late last night. According to reports, both suspects robbed a 7-11, hijacked a car, threw explosives at law enforcement and killed a university police officer. Boston is currently on lockdown.
