How many times have you decided not to ask for something
only to find that your colleague got it—plus more? If you want something, speak
up. What’s the worst that’s going to happen? You’re denied of your request? It
never hurts to ask.
Most of us are afraid of confrontation. But don’t think
about it as a dramatic pursuit. Instead, see it as being true to your worth.
People will never acknowledge your worth unless you acknowledge your worth.
There will be times that you will not get the response
you’re looking for. Like that time you try to haggle the car salesman with no
success. That’s ok. The trick is to start getting used to asking for what you
would like. Eventually, this will become second nature to you and you’ll start
seeing the results you want.
Asking is especially important when it comes to business and
your career. As long as you are realistic and respectful, you should be well
received. Come prepare with facts to back you up, and go ahead and ask for what
you need and what you want. Because there’s nothing worst than living with
regrets. If you know you tried your best to get what you wanted, you’ll always
live in peace.
