When you build a business, more important than anything is developing a base of clients or customers and then fostering those relationships. Long-lasting client relationships often become the core of a successful business – they offer solid referrals and continued, repeat business. Providing your core clients with reliable service is one piece of the puzzle, but building long-term client relationships is what will take your business to the next level. Here’s a few tips that I have picked up over the years for building long-lasting relationships with clients and customers.

  1. Take deadlines seriously. Meeting deadlines goes a long way in creating a successful business – do everything in your power to stay on target.
  2. Offer value. You can be an excellent resource for your clients – offer insight or help connect them to other area businesses.
  3. Over communicating is actually a good thing. Your clients rely on you for info about your progress with a project or services you are providing. Regular updates are definitely appreciated.
  4. Honesty is always the best policy. Being open and honest with your clients is a key factor in developing a long-term relationship.
  5. Thank your long-term clients. When clients have supported or given you repeat business, reward them with some sort of discounted service and always say thank you.
