Getting Through Wedding Season Without Going Broke

  • Smile, laugh and enjoy the day. Rather than feeling resentful of the cost or time of another wedding, enjoy it and be happy for your friend’s big moment.
  • Be realistic about what you can afford. When it comes to bridesmaid dresses and all the accoutrements, you have to be honest with the bride. Let her know exactly what works for your budget.
  • Get creative about the gift. If you can’t afford an extravagant gift, give something more meaningful – like a DIY photo book or offer to house sit while the couple is honeymooning.
  • Share hotel rooms and transportation. Use the weddings as a time for a mini-reunion and if you can split a room with an old friend.
  • You can’t pick them all. I know this one is tough – but, you may have to skip a wedding or two. Send a thoughtful gift and make a personal phone call with wedding wishes to the couple instead.
