Having a baby is such a wonderful and emotional time – it changes your life forever. And even if you feel totally stir crazy toward the end of your maternity leave, going back to work can be really tough. From emotional ups and downs to a major schedule adjustment, moms returning to work face a challenging transition. Here are my tips for new moms returning to work after leave to help make going back to the office feel good.
5 Tips for New Moms Returning to Work
- Try transitioning gradually. Have your baby head to daycare one or two days a week in the final weeks before you go back to work. This will make the transition smooth and less of a shock.
- Spend extra time with your baby when you are at home. Get up a little earlier or find a way to get a little extra snuggle time in – it’ll make you feel so much better.
- Have confidence in your child care. Choosing childcare you trust will help make your transition a smooth one. You’ll still worry (of course!), but knowing your baby is in good hands will help ease your mind.
- Stay in touch during the work day. It’s absolutely ok to let your childcare know that you’re nervous – they may even send you a photo or two throughout the day. Go ahead and call to check in.
- Remind yourself why you love your job and what’s positive about working. For some moms, working makes them even better at being a mom – and if that’s you, it’s ok!
