Is Your Smartphone Ruining Your Relationship?

From social media sites to news and videos, our cell phones have become our everything  for getting information around the clock. In the morning, evening and in-between we have access to playing games and reading our favorite blogs. While constant access is great, could it be taking a toll on our relationships? Most of us (including me!) can’t leave home without our cell phone and it’s often the last thing we look at before bed. Maybe it’s time to start setting some boundaries to get back to the basics of communicating in our relationships. Here are my tips for setting our digital lives aside (for just a minute) and getting back to the core of communication.

Is Your Smartphone Ruining Your Relationship?

  • Set time aside every day, just for you. Remember when you used to spend time reading a book or flipping through the pages of a magazine? Make that time a priority again.
  • Have a date night with your significant other with no phones allowed – at least once a week.
  • Set a limit for your own weekly Facebook and Instagram posts. This will help you focus on keeping some moments just for yourself.
  • Choose a time on weeknights and weekends for turning off your phone and just talking with your significant other or family.
  • Have one movie night or family game night at home each week – no social media allowed, just like the good old days.

How do you make sure you disconnect from your smartphone and focus on communicating with your loved ones each day?
