Sometimes the first steps to making exercise a part of your daily routine can be tough, but if you set your mind to it – you can go from the couch to a 5K in no time. Trust me – if you’ve decided that it’s time to make running a habit, once you feel the wind in your hair and your feet on the ground, you’ll start to crave the endorphins that make running feel so good. If you doubt your ability and your will power, check out these steps to make running (or any other exercise) a daily no-brainer.
4 Steps to Make Running A Daily Habit
- Establish a plan. Just like any other habit, knowing what and when to expect something will help make your new running routine predictable.
- Track your progress. If you’re taking on running – track your mileage or time with a fun app – seeing your own progress will feel so good!
- Don’t be afraid to reward yourself! Having a reward means you have something to look forward to at the end of a tough run or workout. You’ll start to associate exercise with the reward – whether it’s a hot shower, a smoothie or even a delicious cappuccino – treat yourself for your hard work!
- Get the routine down. By keeping things regular, your body and mind will begin to crave the routine. Try exercising at the same time each day or having a particular snack before you head out for a run.
