Another remake is in the works! It was just announced that 28-year-old pop star Carly Rae Jepsen will begin her first stint on Broadway as Cinderella next month. The “Call Me Maybe” singer may have landed the title role but she has big glass slippers to fill, with Julie Andrews having starred in the original 1957 television version, and now replacing Tony-nominated Laura Osnes.
Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland has already taken to Twitter to reveal her disappointment, writing, “Today’s a meltdown day. Carly Rae Jepsen is going to be Cinderella??? On Broadway??? NOT OK WITH THIS.”
After Carrie Underwood’s The Sound of Music performance, we’ve seen just how critical the Internet can be of renditions so I wish her all the best. Will you go see Carly Rae Jepsen in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella?
