Whitney Houston has checked into a drug and alcohol rehab facility. A spokesperson for the “I Will Always Love You” diva confirmed to MTV News on Monday (May 9) that Houston is undergoing treatment in an outpatient program for drug and alcohol issues on a voluntary basis as part of her “long-standing recovery process.”
The troubled singer, who has struggled with drugs and alcohol on and off for years, has been trying to reboot her once-soaring musical career for much of the past decade. The latest attempt came in 2009 with I Look to You. The album and a subsequent tour, however, failed to catch fire, with negative reviews for overseas shows, where fans complained about Houston’s voice and performances.
Houston, 47, entered rehab in 2004 and again in 2005 and has admitted to substance abuse problems, but said around the time of her 2009 album release that she was feeling stronger and was focused on her sobriety.
I want to wish Whintey the best of luck and a fast recovery. Whitney is an amazing singer and an iconic figure in the music industry and hope to see Whitney back in the spotlight soon.
