How to Make Your Perfume Last Longer

Your favorite scent can make a statement, becoming your signature style when it comes to the senses. But it won’t say anything about you if it doesn’t last long enough to make an impression. As Coco Chanel famously said, “A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future.” Whether you’re wearing Chanel or something a little more modest, read on for five simple tips to help make your signature scent stay on a little longer.

  1. Layer – If you have the shower gel, body lotion, and perfume of the fragrance you’d like to wear, layer them on for the longest lasting scent.
  2. Use over Moisturizer – Perfume lasts longer over moisturized skin, so, as with layering, even if you don’t have the complementary lotion to go with your scent, wear it over unscented cream to make it stay.
  3. Apply to pulse points – Applying just below the earlobe, at the base of the throat, at your wrists, inside the elbow, and behind the knee will make your fragrance last longer than simply applying to skin.
  4. Apply to skin, not clothes – Fragrance is heat activated, which means it will work better against your skin than if only sprayed on your clothing. Not to mention, it can damage your fabrics with the oils and alcohol.
  5. Don’t rub after spraying – It can “crush the fragrance” or weaken the molecules that hold the fragrance together. Let it rest once it hits your skin.
