Anyone else out there just wish they could get their eyeliner to stay on longer? This really is a challenge for many of us because eyes are naturally meant to be a little wet – that’s what keeps them healthy! Here are a few tricks of the trade – and if you have any of your own, please share!

How to Make Your Eyeliner Stay on Longer: 9 Tips

  1. Look for waterproof eyeliner – this helps, especially if you have watery eyes or you can’t help but rub them. The Motives Waterproof Eye Pencil in Black Magic is perfect. It’s waterproof, but still creamy – so it glides on easily for a flawless finish.
  2. Apply the liner and follow by dusting a bit of translucent powder over your eyes. This will help set the eyeliner.
  3. When applying, line both the upper and lower waterline of your lid – this will help keep it all in place and ensure no skin is peeking through. Using an angled brush, add a bit of black eye shadow directly on top of the line you just created with the eyeliner.
  4. Go for two layers of liner. Trace the edge of your lid with a pencil liner, and then apply an additional line with liquid liner directly atop your original pencil line.
  5. Apply primer to your lids and around your eyes. Don’t have any primer? Try using a tiny dab of moisturizer to make sure the skin around your eyes is nice and soft.
  6. If your skin or eyelids get oily throughout the day, use blotting papers rather than rubbing.
  7. Use concealer to create the perfect blank canvas both above and below your eyes.
  8. Steer clear of your tear ducts when applying liner – your eye will naturally tear up if makeup gets in there, avoiding that spot will help keep your eye a bit drier.
  9. Dust translucent powder below the eyes so that if makeup does rub off, it will land on top of the powder and will brush away easily.
