In incredibly tragic news out of South Carolina, alleged gunman Dylann Roof, a 21-year-old South Carolina native, is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing nine members, including the pastor, of predominantly black church Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. According to officials, Roof, in interviews with the FBI and local police, has confessed to killing these individuals in an attempt to start a race war.
The suspect spent the night in protective custody, as well as on suicide watch, at a detention center in North Charleston. As stated below, according to the Charleston Police Department, Roof is scheduled for a bond hearing at 2:00 p.m., even though he is not eligible according to state law.
