How to avoid weight gain in the fall is a question that comes around every September. Most of us are active during the summer months, however, the entrance of fall and cooler weather trades in our walks and day trips in the glow of the sun, for movie nights on the couch in the comforts of our home. We snack more. We lay more. Our rigorous physical activities become limited due to weather conditions. The layers of extra clothing for the future season gives us a little excuse to eat just a little more than we normally would. What happens… we gain weight! This doesn’t have to be. Fall does not have to bring a gift of fifteen extra pounds..
Here are some suggestions on how to avoid gaining weight this fall:
– Set a realistic exercise plan in action.
– Join group activities were you are supported and encouraged by your peers to attend. Many people join boot camp groups during the fall and winter months to keep them motivated.
– Train for a 5k marathon. Having a fitness goal will keep you focused.
– Instead of denying yourself all of the great comfort foods, watch your portion sizes, and substitute healthy versions for the more fat induced favorites.
– Make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle as opposed to thinking weight loss.
– Stop stressing about gaining weight. Stress adds pounds. Be light, free, and healthy mentally as well as physically.
