As much as I don’t want to admit this, fall is starting to peek its way out and pretty soon we’ll be facing it head on. When the temps start to drop and the cool, crisp air begins to make its way in, chapped and dry lips start happening too. Rather than struggling through the fall season with cracking and rough lips, how about nipping the problem from the start with some natural preventatives and remedies? Whether you’re ready to whip up your own lip balm or you’re simply going to kick your hydration up a notch, here are some natural solutions for dry and chapped lips.
7 Natural Solutions for Dry & Chapped Lips
#1. Coconut oil. The perfect moisturizer, especially for dry and cracked lips. Apply coconut oil throughout the day directly to lips or apply right before you go to bed for overnight hydration.
#2. Aloe Vera. A great natural solution for so many things, Aloe Vera straight off the plant works great when it comes to soothing dry lips. Just break off a piece and dab the natural gel directly on your lips for immediate relief.
#3. Rose petals. How lovely does that sound? Pick a few rose petals from your garden and rinse with warm water. Let them soak in a small bowl of milk for a few hours. After they’ve had time to soak, mash the rose petals and milk until a paste forms. Apply this directly to lips for instant relief (and a bit of color!).
#4. Cucumbers. Turns out fresh cucumbers are also great for soothing and hydrating chapped lips. Just slice one up and press into your lips for immediate (and tasty!) relief. You can repeat this as many times as necessary throughout the day for continual moisturizing benefits.
#5. Sugar and Honey Exfoliator. Mix together a small amount of sugar and honey to make a paste, perfect for sloughing off dry skin. Dab on your lips and gentle rub to get rid of dead skin cells. Rinse with warm water.
#6. Honey. Use honey as is – apply a small amount directly to the lips to moisturize.
#7. Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. The answer for everything, right? It’s absolutely true. When your lips are dry and chapped they are starved for moisture and sometimes you can easily resolve that from the inside out by making sure your whole body is hydrated from head to toe. So drink up!
