Have you ever heard my girl JLo talk about her twins? She’s a glowing mom with so much to be proud of. And, so much on her plate – raising two gorgeous kiddos and working full time (plus more!). Despite her crazy schedule, JLo keeps it all in check – even taking the time to consider things like gender equality as she raises her twin children, Emme and Max. If you haven’t seen her latest feature in The Cut, they’re highlighting her part in a recent discussion on gender equality and its significance in our ever-changing world. “Having boy-girl twins really opened my eyes to how different men and women are and makes me think about how I treat my boy and how I treat my girl,” said Lopez.
The discussion followed the recent news from the United Nations, announcing “Jennifer Lopez as the first-ever Global Advocate for Girls and Women at the U.N. Foundation. In this new role, Lopez will help to amplify the call for action to address the needs and rights of girls and women around the world.” Who better for this awesome and important role? JLo embodies the free-spirited, independent woman who has made her way in the world through hard work and dedication to her passion. And, as she continues to grow into her role, she’ll work to adopt the 17 sustainable development goals put forth by the U.N. General Assembly. At the top of that list: achieve gender equality for women and girls in 15 years. Now, that’s one heck of a task – but she’s getting started right at home.
“At the end of the day, when I picture 2030 when we reach these goals, I want my twins standing side by side and I want them looking at a landscape that has the same opportunity for both of them,” she said. “That the world is as much of an oyster for Emme as it is for Max.”
JLo truly seems to understand the task at hand, knows her part in the process and is completely up for the challenge. Despite the all the challenges we’ve overcome throughout the years, there is no doubt that gender inequality is still an issue for so many people in so many parts of the world.
“While some progress has been made, there is still a lot more work that needs to be done for gender equality and universal access to medical care. I am happy to be joining the U.N. Foundation and eager to lend my voice and ensure that all girls and women are safe, healthy, educated and empowered.” (via Huffington Post)
Wishing my gal, JLo congrats on this incredible opportunity – there’s no one better to tackle the task at hand!
