Did anyone see the headlines this week about Alyssa Milano’s #TBT Instagram post? Alyssa has long been known for standing up and speaking her mind to #NormalizeBreastfeeding – good for her! And, she got back to spreading her message, this time on social media, with a Throw Back Thursday Halloween pic of her breastfeeding her infant daughter while dressed in a Wonder Woman costume. Take a look:

Milano also shared the image on all her other social media accounts with the message and hashtag: #TBT 2014 Wonder Woman! #normalizebreastfeeding. And, as many of the headlines have mentioned, it’s a healthy reminder that “breastfeeding is not a crime.”
Here’s what Milano had to say in a US Weekly interview earlier this year:
“I realize there are much larger issues going on in the world. And I don’t want to turn this into a bigger issue than it is but I will say this … breastfeeding my children has been one of the greatest joys of my life.”
“Every ounce of milk I’m able to produce for my child is nothing short of a miracle and to watch that milk be thrown away without any regard for my baby, was heartbreaking. It’s not the fault of the security in the airport; they’re following orders to keep us all safe. But I do feel it is a policy that needs thoughtful reconsideration. I’m glad this has started a dialogue. My only hope is to make things easier for moms, breastfeeding and formula feeding moms, everywhere.”
In a world where breastfeeding is often looked down upon or has become a stigma that many find offensive, moms everywhere have the right to stand up and share what they believe works for raising their own children. Milano has been a voice for breastfeeding women everywhere, even showing in her #TBT photo that it doesn’t matter what you’re doing, as a breastfeeding mom – sometimes you have to put everything on hold to breastfeed. No matter what your stance on breastfeeding is, you have to hand it to Alyssa for standing up for a women’s cause – that is a sensitive one at that – and sharing what she believes is right and just. Not to mention, adding the power of social media to the mix.
Are you a mom? What do you think about Alyssa’s crusade to stand up for breastfeeding moms?
