Why I’m a Huge Fan of Sia

Did you check out Sia on Saturday Night Live this weekend? Her two performances on the show were fantastic, and I sincerely love her newest album. In fact, I happen to be a huge fan of Sia’s. I love her music and appreciate her artful approach to music and the music industry.

Aside from her music, I love how Sia has somehow managed to make it huge without “selling out” or being false. Ever wonder why she wears that face-coving wig and has other performers dance for her? Well it’s because she doesn’t want the fame and glory that comes with her famous name. She told Kristen Wiig all about her famous bob in an Interview Magazine article last March.

“So when people say, ‘Show your face, you’re not ugly.’I want to say, ‘I know. I’m not doing it because I think I’m ugly; I’m trying to have some control over my image. And I’m allowed to maintain some modicum of privacy. But also I would like not to be picked apart or for people to observe when I put on ten pounds or take off ten pounds or I have a hair extension out of place or my fake tan is botched.’”- via

She wants to maintain some semblance of privacy, which is something I can totally stand behind. By doing this, she’s taking a stand again the music industry’s image problem when it comes to hyper sexualizing women and turning them into objects to be nitpicked over. She’s chosen to do things her way and it’s worked for her.

She’s a rebel and an artist who isn’t afraid to be herself, which is why I love her and her music. Check out her SNL performances here and here to see what I mean.
