It may not be wedding season, but there are a lot of couples that opt to marry during fall and winter months. There are so many reasons to wait later in the years including better prices than June and September and family and friends have more days off to celebrate with you.
I spoke to Dulce Maria De Los Reyes, Owner of Coral Gables Bridals in Miami who shares tips on how to celebrate your big day the right way.
Let’s talk fall/winter trends. What’s in and what’s out?
“Lately, it’s all about the back! Many brides are choosing to wear dresses that expose their backs and their curves. However, illusion necklines, ball gown dresses and deep V-necks have also been very popular for the fall season.
One hot trend we’ve noticed is how floral lace is changing on dresses. Now you see lace flowers against bare skin rather than with fabric in the background. It’s a more transparent look where the lace becomes the center of attention on your body. It’s a very elegant and sometimes edgy look.
There are also some trends that are making a comeback like sleeves on dresses. In terms of a trend that is out, we would say heavy dresses. The kinds you see with lots of lace or beadwork. Women are going with softer and subtler or romantic looks rather than really busy designs.”
We associate colors like burgundy and brown with winter. What other colors can couples incorporate during colder weather?
“Most brides create winter wonderland looks by incorporating warm and earth tone colors to their weddings. A few of our favorite color combinations include:
- Burgundy with rose and champagne
- Grays with cream, tan and teal
- Silver and sage
- Navy and light purples
What should brides and grooms consider when trying to plan a holiday wedding?
“I would suggest to start planning way in advance and sending your save-the-dates earlier than normal because guests will have to modify their holiday travel plans. Once the wedding comes around, try to make them feel welcomed and perhaps give them special keepsakes to make them feel like they’re presence was extra significant. They could have been traveling or celebrating the holidays in other ways but they chose to make it to your wedding.”
What advice do you have for any brides with their wedding dates quickly approaching?
“Enjoy the process no matter how much time you’re taking to plan and don’t stress out on small little details. Know that the people attending your weeding are there for you and that everything will turn out great in hindsight. Although, I would recommend that you start planning to search for your perfect dress between 8 to 12 months prior to your wedding date. It takes 4 to 6 months for dresses to arrive from designers and you’ll need to schedule about two fittings.”
