Name your favorite book. My guess is that a woman wrote it. “How’d you know?” you may be asking yourself. Well, it’s because women are currently dominating the literary world.
In 2015, women authored most of the novels that were discussed and written about in the media. Does The Girl On the Train by Paula Hawkins ring any bells? Maybe Harper Lee’s Go Set a Watchman sounds familiar? Even Fate and Furies, our president’s favorite book, was written by, you guessed it, a woman. Lauren Groff was floored when she discovered President Obama chose her book as his favorite. Her surprise was just as surprising to me considering her novel is already a major player on the New York Times Best Sellers List and was chosen as Amazon’s book of 2015.
The New York Public Library recently released that women wrote 9 out of the 10 most checked out books last year with Jodi Picoult’s Leaving Time at the top of the list.
Women are truly the future and I’m sure we’ll see much more from women in literature as the year continues. I can’t wait!
