OK. You’re super busy, not sure how you’re going to squeeze it all in – but, it’s a New Year and it’s time to get healthy. No matter what your weekly schedule has in store, there are ways to get a daily workout in (trust me!), it just takes a little creativity. If it’s the kids that keep you on your toes, they can join you. If it’s the office that’s keeping your schedule slammed – we’ll figure it out. And, if you’re a business traveler with zero time, no worries. Here are some easy workouts to add to your week.
Got kids? No matter if they’re little babes requiring loads of attention or pre-teens needing some serious carpooling, squeezing in some workouts with the kiddos can totally be done – it just takes some will power and creativity.
Get walking. If you’re kids are little enough to ride in the stroller, pack ‘em up and head out the door on the daily. They’ll love it too – and all that fresh air is good for the whole family. Commit to an hour walk (or run!) each day around the neighborhood or at a local park to get the blood flowing and shed those extra calories. If it’s super cold – pack on the layers or head to your local mall to get your steps in. No need to shop, just walk!
Capitalize on naptime. Naps are genius for so many reasons, one of which is that it gives you time to do a little something for yourself. Put everyone down for an hour and fire up YouTube where you’ll find heaps of workouts you can easily do right in your living room – all for free. No excuses!
The office keeping you slammed?
Turn your lunch hour into health hour. There’s no better time of day to get your walk or run on than the lunch hour. A quick change of shoes from heels to sneakers and you’re out the door, power walking those calories right off. Round up all your office buds to make it even more fun. Got a little more time? Change your clothes and hit the pavement for a lunchtime running session. Your coworkers will love it when you inspire them to join you.
Constantly traveling? No worries. There’s no better place than an airport and a super long layover to get your steps in. Forgo sitting at the bar to grab a glass of wine and slip into your athletic shoes. Grab your rolling suitcase and start power walking. Sound crazy? It’s not – when else do you have the time to squeeze this in?
YouTube has you covered every night and morning that you’re living the hotel life. No need to hit the breakfast buffet, throw on your workout gear, put a towel on the floor and fire up your laptop – it’s time to get your workout on. No internet access? No worries. Before you hit the road, jot down a series of a.m. exercises to get you going, try this:
- 50 jumping jacks
- 20 squats
- 20 squat jumps
- 20 burpees
- 20 reverse lunges
- 15 pushups
- 50 mountain climbers
- 100 crunches
- 1 minute plank
Repeat that circuit three times and you’re good-to-go!
