Did anyone hear the recent reports of Ellen DeGeneres and Justin Bieber raising money for a Detroit public school in great need? It’s pretty awesome – here’s a look: we were pretty excited to learn that Ellen and Bieber have teamed up to raise funds for a Detroit public school that needs a new roof, major classroom and gym repairs and an overhaul on the heating system.
Here’s what CNN had to say:
“After hearing about low-income students at Spain Elementary School who are enduring a damaged roof, a torn-up gym and classrooms with no heat, DeGeneres came to the rescue. The talk show host has announced that the Lowe’s chain of home-improvement stores will donate $500,000 to repairing the school, including $50,000 in new computers and a $100 Visa gift card to every teacher and staff member.” She also managed to recruit “pop singer Justin Bieber” who has pledged to donate one dollar of every ticket sold for his suburban Detroit concert on April 25.Pretty amazing, right?
Take a look at the video announcement:
If all that wasn’t enough, “DeGeneres also leveraged the power of her audience by creating a GoFundMe page where people can donate money to the school. As of Friday afternoon it had attracted more than $50,000 in donations. This aid comes after recent media coverage exposed dangerous conditions at Spain Elementary and its teachers staged that closed the school for two days.” (via CNN)
Every once in a while it’s nice to hear a feel good story that reminds us that people are out there doing what they can to help out our local communities. Don’t you agree? Way to go Ellen and Bieber – this is awesome!
