I often come across people who have a total misconception about success. They believe that the only way to get to the top is to have lots of money to invest in something and to have an unmistakable talent. And while it’s certainly nice to have some sort of cushion and a talent to boast of, I’ve personally experienced time and time again that what matters most is the kind of effort you choose to put into something. I always ask where their mind is at when they ask about achieving success. Because if you’re not in the right mindset, it doesn’t matter how much money you have. If you’re not willing to be better and fully commit to what you’re working towards, forget about the rest because it just won’t happen. If you are serious about achieving success, then get your head in the game first with the very basics of achievement. I came across this post via Mindset of Greatness (@mindsetofgreatness on IG) and it perfectly encapsulates what I feel are the tenets of success.
Be Better: 10 Things That Require Zero Talent
#1. Being on time: As they say, half of success is just showing up. And if you’re on time, you’re already ahead of the game.
#2. Work ethic: Do your best, even if you’re not being recognized for it. That’s part of having personal integrity and always results in better product.
#3. Effort: Don’t be lazy. It always shows. Put in your best effort regardless of what others are doing. Your only competition is yourself.
#4. Body language: The things you say without speaking are always the loudest. Be aware of the way you are presenting yourself to the world.
#5. Energy: You are responsible for the energy you bring into any situation. Make sure it’s always good and pure.
#6. Attitude: Attitude accounts for so much of success and failure. Whether you think you’ll succeed or fail, you’re right.
#7. Passion: There’s no substitute for passion. It drives everything. Do all things with passion or not at all.
#8. Being coachable: We don’t always have to have the right skills but we do always have to be willing to learn them from those who do.
#9. Doing extra: A little extra always goes a long way. Don’t do the bare minimum or that’s what you’ll ultimately get in return.
#10. Being prepared: You can never be too prepared for something. Always know your client, your product, and your business. You’ll soon become the expert you hope to be.
