3 Things to Ask Yourself Before Starting a New Project

I am a multi-tasker by nature and have dozens of plates in the air at any given time.  A new project is exciting and there is nothing more rewarding than coming up with an idea that will help others as well as yourself.  Even though I am constantly working on my current projects, a proposal always deserves attention and when reviewing something new there are three things I ask myself before starting a new project:

1. Is it innovative?
My husband JR and I are determined to stay ahead of the curve.  Our goal is to the pave the way for others, not play follow the leader.  You should do the same with every potential project brought to your attention.  Be the leader, not the follower in your industry!  If it’s an innovative idea that fills a hole in your market, that will help others get something they need, go for it.

2. Do I have the resources to support this idea?
This question does not only apply to capital.  Will you need a web developer?  An intern?  A warehouse? Investors?  Big or small, it is key to evaluate all support needed to get the idea off the ground and running smoothly.  Once you’re aware of what the building blocks will be, you can make the decision to put them together or pass them up.

3. What is the backup plan?
A creative idea does not guarantee success.  I always say to never give up on your dreams and if this new project is your passion then by all means go full speed ahead and do not stop until you achieve your goals.  But you must always plan for hiccups, detours, and hiatus along the way.  Don’t be afraid to fail.  Failure is a lesson you can’t ignore and is part of the success experience.  Just get back up and keep on keepin’ on.
