About the “Keep A Child Alive” Organization

It’s not every day that we stumble upon organizations that truly speak to our heart and soul, but when my friend Alicia Keys told me about “Keep a Child Alive,” an organization she co-founded, I was moved and inspired to help. The mission of this powerful organization is simple: “to realize the end of AIDS for children and families, by combating the physical, social and economic impacts of HIV.” And the work of this small, but power-house team spans the globe. I recently participated in KCA’s #DaretoBear campaign – to raise awareness, funds and stand up for the health and safety of sexually abused children with a #DaretoBear tee.

It’s really that simple. Buy the t-shirt, wear it and help the team at Keep a Child Alive raise awareness around the globe for this worldwide epidemic. Here’s how it all got started and what they do each day:

KCA was founded in 2003 by AIDS activist Leigh Blake and 15-time Grammy Award-winner Alicia Keys, as an emergency push to get life-saving HIV medication to children needlessly dying of AIDS in Africa.

Today, the team continues to work on the front lines in the fight against AIDS, providing the critical components necessary to support successful, life-long HIV treatment: comprehensive clinical care, nutritious food and psychosocial support, all delivered with compassion, dignity and respect.

They also tackle the social and economic factors that fuel this epidemic and get in the way of prevention and treatment, such as poverty, lack of education, stigma, discrimination and isolation. And, in addition – currently provide financial and programmatic support to 7 grassroots organizations in Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda and India, serving over 70,000 people annually.
