Sometimes, taking a nice warm shower at the end of the day is exactly what I need to relax. I turn on the faucet and let those steams put me into a relaxed stupor. I look forward to that shower, as I’m sure many of you do as well. It’s comforting; a ritual. Yet, did you know that taking a cold water shower has tremendous health and beauty benefits like an improved immune system and weight loss? Sound crazy? Improved Immune System- Feel a cold coming on? I know it sounds counterintuitive, but taking a cold shower actually helps to boost your immunity. Your body produces more white blood cells when you take a cold shower. These are the cells that fight against pathogens, keeping you nice and healthy.

Improves Circulation- Cold water causes your blood vessels to constrict, leaving less space for your blood to flow and improving circulation. When you take that cold shower your blood will circulate more quickly and flow throughout your entire body. Improved circulation helps with your overall health, so the benefits just keep on rolling in.

Fights Depression- This is an interesting tidbit. Cold water stimulates a part of your brain that produces noradrenaline. This is one of the chemicals in your brain that helps to fight depression. See how great you feel after that cold shower and come back to me.

Improves Health of Hair and Skin Overall- This is my favorite cold-shower fact. Yup, taking in those chilly streams of cold water actually improve the health of your skin and hair. How? Cold water causes your skin and pores to constrict rather than expand like hot water does. When you take a cold shower, your skin and hair scalp don’t absorb any of the bacteria in your water, keeping your skin bright and your hair nice and glossy.

Will you be taking turning the faucet to cold the next time you step into the shower? Let me know in the comments section!
