You end up eating out on romantic dates, staying up too late and can easily fall off your regular routine – so what about making your healthy habits part of your relationship from the start? From making exercise part of your routine as a couple to making sure you both have the alone time that you need to stay balanced, here are a few ways to make your relationship the core and driving force of your healthy lifestyle.

Relationship Health Check: Making Physical & Mental Health a Priority

Keep one another honest when it comes to exercise. It’s easy to forgo exercise when you’d rather snuggle in bed a little longer in the morning or spend time grabbing a bite to eat together after work. So how about changing your routine to get up early and hit the running trails together or meet up at the gym after work? You’ll keep your exercise routine on track and it will be fun too.

Learn to meditate together. When stress in life gets high and tough to deal with, making sure you’re able to spend time focused on yourself is essential. But, perhaps finding those spiritual moments together could add an aspect of depth and serenity to your relationship. Try learning to meditate for a few minutes a day together – it will give you the quiet time and space you need to keep your mental health in check and will probably bring you closer together than ever before.

Plan out your weekly meals together – and keep them healthy. When life gets busy, it’s so easy to end up eating out night after night. Stop that habit in its tracks by heading to the grocery store together at the start of each week and put a meal plan together. If you know what you’re going to cook and you have all the ingredients at home, you’ll be inspired to cook and much less likely to get off track with your diet.

Take time to yourself. Sounds tough when all you want to do is spend time together, but it’s probably one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself and your relationship. Everyone needs time to self-reflect, take some time to simply be and just relax – setting that tone from the start of your relationship can easily be something that helps your relationship stand the test of time. It gives you both the time you need and will ultimately make that time together feel even more special.
