Q&A with Megan Fox

Megan Fox grew up in the ‘90’s watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with her older sister. So it’s no surprise Megan signed on to portray Turtle pal April O’Neil when the four reptiles hit the big screen in 2014. The brothers are back again in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, in theaters now, and Megan has a lot to say about their new adventures.

As fun as working with four teenaged mutant turtles that can ninja like it’s nobody’s business sounds, Megan does not bring her two young sons on set. “Sets are a really dangerous place for kids. I took my oldest on the first set and he tripped when he was really small over a chord and bust his lip open,” she said. “So I decided, no more sets for children because there are explosives, cables, there’s random metal pieces laying everywhere. It’s not a safe place for children.”

Not only do three-year-old Noah and two-year-old Bodhi not go to work with mom, they’re not ready to see the action-packed scenes on the big screen. Even though turtles seem like a safe bet for little ones, Megan will wait until they’re older to let them watch it.

“They’re still really frightened by things that are not scary,” the 30-year-old explained. “There’s this little pre-school song called, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and they’re both terrified of bears because of that song and it’s a song made for children. So they’re definitely not anywhere near ready to see a movie like this. It would be way too scary for them.”

Now that Megan is preparing to welcome her third child with partner Brian Austin Green, she reflects on her parenting style and how it’s evolved throughout the years. “They’ve been in such rapid succession that I feel that there hasn’t been tremendous growth in one direction or the other. My philosophies are still very similar but I guess I’m even more patient than I was with the first one because I was so afraid that something was going to go wrong all the time.

She added, “When Noah was a baby I was constantly on edge and would like burst into tears. I’m still not good about watching them get hurt but I’m a little more patient and a little more confident and trusting in the universe to take care of them and less controlling. Not over them but over the right to make every decision for them because I don’t trust anybody else to do it.”

So what’s up next for April and her Turtle buddies? “I want the third movie to go to Tokyo so I’m trying to figure out a story for that. Maybe Krang is doing some undercover stuff in Tokyo. I don’t know I just want to get there. The other thing is that since Tokyo is so crazy or like the Harajuku District, the Turtles could just be out. People would think they’re just in costume. They wouldn’t know that they were turtles. So they could live there in the daylight. I think that’s a good plan.”
