It happens to all of us….the kick off to summer is finally here and there’s nothing more exciting than heading straight to the pool or beach. But before heading out the door you take one look at your winter-white skin and realize you need a quick fix – so it’s straight to the self-tanner. While self-tanner does an ah-mazing job at getting rid of that pale and pasty winter look, it’s also easy to end up with streaky and blotchy blunders. So what do you do? Here are a few self-tanner quick fixes that work great in a pinch so you can look your best and spend your time having fun in the sun.
How to Correct Your Self-Tanner Mistakes
You have patchy and blotchy tan spots all over. The last thing you want is a patchy look – and believe it or not, this one is pretty easy to solve. Use baby oil to moisturize your entire body – remember you’re going for an even look! Be extremely liberal with the application and then relax for 5-10 minutes, letting the baby oil sink in and really do its magic. Hop in a warm bath or shower to rinse and you’ll be amazed at how even and smooth your tan looks.
You have a whole bunch of streaks. This is probably the most common problem related to self-tanner and one we’ve all struggled with from time to time. Similarly to using too much, the quick fix is to simply tone it down a bit and a gentle body scrub will help do the trick. Don’t have a gentle exfoliator? Go DIY by mixing baking soda and water to create a paste. Gentle exfoliate the streaky areas, rinse and you’ll be good to go!
You go a little wild and put on too much self-tanner….leaving your skin very, very dark. Try jumping in a pool – the chlorine well help lighten the hue almost immediately. No pool at your disposal? A quick shower with some exfoliating scrub will do the trick asap.
You have little streaky and blotchy spots that aren’t that noticeable, but you want to even them out. This often happens in between your fingers, around your elbows, ankles, knees – that sort of thing. Turns out lemon juice is the best solution for helping to clean up those stray self-tanner spots. Just dab a cotton pad or cotton ball in lemon juice and gently touch up the spots that need a little cleaning up.
