It’s the week before Valentine’s Day. Stores are filled with heart-shaped candy boxes, you can’t escape the flower advertisements, and even the Starbucks cups get in on the V-Day action. But the Starbucks illustration had me thinking about all the different kinds of love out there: motherly love, love at first sight, true love. What about self-love? We chase the Disney-esque, Prince Charming dream but in reality the best thing you can do is to love yourself first. The most important relationship you have is the one with yourself – so cliche but oh, so true. Appreciate your strengths and your beauty, your flaws, and your imperfections because if you don’t, how can someone else? Love is a powerful emotion and when you feel it for yourself, it shows on the outside. It lets love and light shine onto others. So if you find yourself with just a glass of wine and your best friend this Valentine’s Day, don’t sweat it. Show yourself some kindness this Valentine’s Day, no fancy dinner required. Celebrate self-love and the incredible people in your life.
