If you haven’t been following along on Instagram, I’m thrilled to be sharing the progress we’re making with the design and furnishing of our new home in Greenwich, Connecticut. The place has so much history; it’s gorgeous and classic – I (of course) think it’s a real stunner. So my goal is to design it with a balance of modern flair that still pays homage to the classic style. I also want to keep it comfortable and inviting for our family and friends to spend time relaxing all year long, so everything from the furniture to the art has been hand-selected because of its equally modern style and family-friendly traits. As we continue to work on putting this place together, I’d like to share some photos of what’s been installed so far. Read ahead for a few tips on modern home design that I’ve picked up along the way.
3 Simple Tips for Modern Home Design
#1. Art can say it all. Choosing art pieces that reflect a modern tone – shapes, black and white and simplicity can help set the mood to modern without sacrificing comfort or family-friendly living. Here’s a few pieces we’ve added to our new Greenwich home:

#2. Lighting is one of the best ways to create a modern vibe and include distinctive lines and shape throughout your home. This chandelier is dramatic, modern and provides a real centerpiece for the room.

#3. It’s all about straight lines coupled with soft touches. Lining the sofas up so that they create two parallel lines helps reinforce the modern undertones we’re going for, however they’re soft, cushy and loaded with comfy pillows! The coffee table has a modern, angled look, but we’ve added traditional touches to its surface with vases and books and added a couple traditional pieces to the hearth. Balance is the name of the game!
