August 15 is National Relaxation Day: 4 Tips for Indulging

11 Relaxing Things You Can Do in 30 Minutes or Less | Loren's World

A whole weekend away with your besties at a five star spa sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it? But, for most of us, busy schedules, work, kids, responsibilities etc. make it pretty impossible to drop everything in the name of spending our days being pampered and treated like royalty. One day (maybe!) for a special occasion or in celebration, but for now – finding ways to relax at home is the name of the game.

Here’s the good news: August 15 is “National Relaxation Day,” and that means it’s time to make sure you squeeze in some me time. Not sure how you can make that happen with your hectic schedule? Here are four ways to really relax (even when it feels like chaos around you). Let loose, my friends!

August 15 is National Relaxation Day: 4 Tips for Indulging

#1. Take some time to meditate. Even though quieting the mind can be a real challenge for many of us, when you’re able to actually spend some time meditating, you’ll be amazed at how great you feel. There are loads of apps out there to help get you going, and National Relaxation Day is the perfect time to start. If your household is hectic with trying to get kiddos ready and out the door in the morning, set your alarm to get up before everyone else. Spend 30 minutes focusing on quiet meditation – and try an app for a guided journey. You won’t regret it! (Here’s a quick guide to get you started.)

#2. Take a midday nap. Oh doesn’t that just sound glorious? So many of us never get a chance to take an afternoon nap – and a warm summer day is the perfect opportunity for one. Find a way to set some time aside this weekend and simply take a nap. Doesn’t have to be in your bed – you could take a blanket or a towel to a local park, the back yard or even the beach and let your mind wander to dreamland with the sounds of summer all around you. (Here are quick tips for better sleep.)

#3. Give yourself a DIY facial. After the kiddos go to bed, work is done for the day and the whole house is quiet, pour yourself a glass of wine and sneak off to the bathroom. Using your favorite scrub, a steamy towel and some luxurious moisturizer – give yourself that facial you’ve been dreaming of. Lay back and steam your face with a hot towel, use a gentle exfoliating scrub to smooth your skin and follow up with your favorite moisturizer. After that – head straight to bed – you’ll fall asleep totally calm and relaxed even after the longest day. (These are 3 masks I love for the home spa.)

#4. Get outside and enjoy that summer sunshine. How often does summer come around? Well…once a year – so we might as well enjoy it and relax in all it has to offer. Take some time during your lunch break to walk outside or just sit down somewhere and enjoy the sun and breeze. Got a bit more time than that? Get the whole family together for an evening walk or bike ride – when you go into it with the mindset of pure fun and relaxation, it will be wonderful!

How about you? Got a favorite way you’ll be celebrating National Relaxation Day?
