There’s really nothing worse than coming across a person or dealing with a friend who cannot stop with the negativity. When all he or she has to say is one negative thing after another – it’s awful to listen to and it brings you down too. The next thing you know, you’re also on the negativity bandwagon and you can’t seem to shake it. Well, here’s the thing: no one wants to be around a negative person who’s bringing them down – so it’s time to stop.

Not to mention, it makes your smart and witty self seem downright dull. Is that how you want to be portrayed? Not for a moment, right? Showing yourself in the best light and sharing your smarts with the world, means being able to maintain an engaging conversation and being open to new experiences, challenges and people. So, let’s stop the negativity before it really starts bringing you down. Not sure what that means for you exactly, here are six negative phrases to eliminate now.

7 Negative Phrases to Eliminate Now

#1. This is boring. Everyone has the power to turn a moment from boring to interesting. And, if you truly feel bored – change your environment – but keep that phrase to yourself.

#2. That’s not my job. If you want to get ahead, being a team player is the name of the game.

#3. But we’ve always done it that way. You know what…so what? Change is often a good thing and positive people embrace change and try new things. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone – it might just work out for the best to try something new.

#4. I don’t know. Here’s the thing: you may not know in that moment, but you can certainly do the research. Try responding with “let me find out” instead.

#5. It’s not fair. OK, life isn’t fair. Life is all about what you make of it and where you put your energy and efforts. Just because someone else achieves something wonderful, doesn’t mean it’s not fair – they probably worked for it too. Try being happy for those around you rather than feeling jealous of their accomplishments.

#6. I can’t. Of course you can! Or if you really can’t, you can absolutely be part of the solution. A great alternative, “I’ll figure it out and get back to you.”

#7. I may be wrong, but….This is one to stop right now. OK, you may be wrong – everyone is wrong at some point or another, but rather than start off with self-doubt, start off with confidence. You’re contributing an idea and that’s what matters. Try something like, “Here’s an idea…” instead.

There’s so much out there just waiting for you to achieve and limiting yourself based on negativity or perceived negativity just isn’t the way to successfully accomplish those goals. Whether it’s at work or in your personal life, you want to be known as someone who’s ready to tackle any challenge and is committed to working hard, playing hard and enjoying what life and work have to offer. What do you think? Can you eliminate these negative phrased and position yourself with more positive vibes?
