As we get ready to say goodbye to 2016 in just a few weeks, it’s time to remember all the good things from the past year. Spotify unveiled its annual top list including the top 5 list of streamed albums and they were a bit of a surprise!
The Top 5 Streamed Albums of 2016 Revealed
At the top of the list you can find Rihanna’s ex-boyfriend Drake, thanks to his fourth studio album titled “Views.” The chart-topping album featured hits including the track you just can’t get out of your mind “Hotline Bling.” Other tracks include “One Dance,” “Controlla,” “Too Good,” and “Pop Style.” The album was streamed a total of 2.45 billion times!
Another Canadian native came in second place. Justin Bieber’s album titled “Purpose,” made it to the top of the charts. In his fourth studio album, the pop culture icon worked with producer Skrillex to create some amazingly dance-worthy tunes. The first single was “I’ll Show You,” followed by “Sorry,” then “Love Yourself,” and “Purpose,” then “Company.” Not only did this album make it into Spotify’s year end list but also lists from Spin Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Fuse, and Rolling Stone.
The third album on the list is ANTI by Rihanna. ANTI is the Barbadian beauty’s eighth studio album released on January 28. Popular songs include “Bitch Better Have My Money,” “FourFiveSeconds” featuring Kanye West and Paul McCartney, “American Oxygen,” “Kiss it Better,” and “Work” featuring the number one guy on this list Drake.
In the fourth spot you’ll find “Blurryface” by Twenty One Pilots who recently performed on Saturday Night Live when Lin-Manuel Miranda hosted. “Stressed Out” was written by Tyler Joseph and produced by Mike Elizondo. Other hits include “Ride,” “Fairly Local,” “Tear in my Heart,” and “Lane Boy.”
The last album on the list is The Weeknd’s “Beauty Behind the Madness.” In his second studio album, the popular singer The Weeknd collaborated with Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, and Labrinth. The album featured five singles “Often“, “The Hills“, “Can’t Feel My Face“, “In the Night” and “Acquainted“. Both “The Hills” and “Can’t Feel My Face” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
This titles will make for great Christmas gifts as well as playlists to stream during your holiday parties. You might be surprised at how many people love the tunes. I didn’t realize that Justin was singing half the songs on his album!
