Vogue to Promote Better Body Image in New Health Initiative

Fashion bible Vogue is to promote better body image in a new health initiative. I was so excited to hear this!  How long have we been screaming that magazines should stress healthy bodies and not just thin women.  We come in all beautiful shapes and sizes which should also be celebrated. The Vogue health initiative is the by-product of a partnership between the Council Fashion Designers of America and US Vogue to mentor models. The agreement involves all editors of Vogue‘s 19 international editions who have signed a six-point agreement focused on promoting better body image in their magazines and the wider fashion industry.

The agreements states that editors will not accept models under 16 or who appear to have an eating disorder, no under age models will be accepted by casting directors, a development of a mentoring program for seasoned models to help the younger ones, and will also encourage show producers to create healthy backstage working environments for models.

Isn’t this amazing!  The Chairman of Vogue International, Jonathan Newhouse stated, “Vogue believes that good health is beautiful. Vogue editors around the world want the magazines to reflect their commitment to the health of the models who appear on the pages and the well-being of their readers.”  Small victories are still great victories.  Finally, the message of healthy bodies is being heard!  What do you think of the new Vogue health initiative?
