There’s a lot to be said for loving what you do for a living. When you think about it, you spend most of your time working – so why not make it something you love? If you’ve found yourself slogging away, realizing you just don’t love the work you do, it’s time for a change. A big one. And, even though it’s going to be tough, it’s time to put your mind to it and try to find that thing you love. When your passion becomes your paycheck, incredible things happen. Trust me on this. It’s pretty amazing. So how can you make that transition? What do you have to do to make it happen? Here’s a look at working a job you love: finding a way to make your passion your paycheck.
Working a Job You Love: Making Your Passion Your Paycheck
Determine your passion. This is probably the most challenging part of the whole process. We all have passions – lots of them. But, figuring out which of our passions means the most and which we can transition into a career isn’t easy. No matter what, it’s all about knowing your one true love. What’s that thing you’d enjoy doing and sharing with clients each and every day? Perhaps you’d love to make exercise or healthy eating part of your career. Sit down with yourself and determine what that really means. Do you want to be a personal trainer or write a cookbook? Only you will know the answer, but you have to do the internal work to find it.
Think about how you can transition from your 9-5 to a new career focused on your passion. What do you have to do in order to get this done? Maybe you need to spend some time building a savings account, perhaps you need a small business loan or maybe all you really need is a leap of faith. No matter what, it’s time to get a plan.
Put together an action plan. Building your own business takes work because nothing worth doing is every going to be easy. And, having a plan is the name of the game. Do your research. Learn about the competitive market. Get the training you need and set yourself up for a lifetime of success. Make a list of priorities in terms of figuring out how to get this done. What type of investment will you need? Do you need equipment or an office space? Can you start the business from home and grow as the business expands? Take a good hard look at what it’s going to take and then, get it all down on paper.
Align your team. Maybe all you need is yourself to actually get the business off the ground, but it’s going to be tough and you’re absolutely going to need support from family and friends. So, let them know what you’re working on and that you’re looking to them to give you some support throughout the process. They’ll be so excited for you – they’ll most likely offer to help in any way they can. And, take them up on it! Sometimes it takes a village.
Have faith. Here’s the thing: going out on your own is scary! But faith in yourself and faith in your passion is all you need to make it happen. You’re going to work harder than you ever have before. You’re going to have to hustle, big time to find the connections, the people and the places to make it a success. But, if you put your mind to it – it’s yours!
So, what are you waiting for? How are you going to take those first steps to turn your passion into your paycheck?
