What to Watch on Netflix in May

I can’t believe it’s already May! With every new month, there are a bunch of new titles coming to Netflix and May looks like it will be especially fun. I’m extremely excited for the return of “Sense8” on May 5. The streaming giant gave viewers a fantastic sneak preview over Christmas of what we can expect from season two by debuting the first episode. The two hour episode was exciting and extremely important. One of the most notable things that happened was the introduction of Toby Onwumere who replaced Aml Ameen in the role of Capheus. I’ll admit, it was a bit confusing at first but Toby does a great job stepping into the role. It helps that his popular local bus the Van Damme was set on fire and the character gets a new set of flashy wheels.

If you haven’t had a chance to watch this series, do so ASAP. It’s a delicious show about relationships and the extraordinary connections we have with our fellow humans.

I don’t want to jump all the way down to May 30, but I have to! Season 5 of “House of Cards” is on its way and there’s even a trailer out today to get fans crazy excited. The video clip opens up showing Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) saying, “The American people don’t know what’s best for them,” as citizens picket outside of the White House. Not surprisingly, you see Underwood’s wife Claire (Robin Wright) by his side. If you were to look up “Ride or Die Chick” in the dictionary, there would most certainly be a photo of Claire Underwood. Lastly, I believe it’s completely not complete coincidence that Frank is starting to reflect the current administration. But that’s neither here nor there. This smash-hit drama needs to be high on your “must watch” list this month.

Here’s the trailer:

Three other popular Netflix Original Series also have May release dates. Aziz Ansari’s “Master of None” returns for season 2 on May 12. “Bloodline” is back for its third and final season on May 26. And “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is ready to make you laugh with their third season on May 19.

If you’re a fan of “Chelsea,” she returns with new episodes every Friday featuring guest star interviewees including “Big Bang Theory” star Jim Parsons, “Angie Tribeca” star Rashida Jones, Goldie Hawn, Chris Pratt, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson. If you’re a big comedy fan, there are plenty of stand-up options including “Mary Bamford: Old Baby” on May 2, “Norm MacDonald: Hitler’s Dog, Gossip & Trickery” on May 9, “Tracy Morgan: Staying Alive” on May 16, and Sarah Silverman’s “A Speck of Dust” on May 30.

As “Queen of the South” gets ready to premiere season 2 on June 8 on USA Network, you can catch-up on the first season on Netflix starting May 9. This is an exciting series featuring a young woman sucked into the dark world of drugs with explosive consequences. Alicia Braga is definitely doing justice to the series that was made famous by Kate Del Castillo in Telemundo’s biggest hit to date “La Reina del Sur” also available to stream.

Other great series coming to Netflix include the CW’s “Riverdale” on May 18, the final season of “Royal Pains” on May 18, Series 4 of Benedict Cumberbatch’s “Sherlock Holmes” and “Don’t Think Twice” on May 1.

If movies are on your mind, they’re adding “Southpaw” on May 24, “Inglourious Basterds” on May 22, and “Marvel’s Doctor Strange” on May 30.
